" From its early steps, space travel has been the interest of many scientists, with the ultimate aspiration being, of course, landing on another planet. One main hurdle the whole space community faced, was the funding. Even the most seemingly "small" mission, say a reconnaissance satellite to be put into orbit, needs a substantial fistfull of cash, to cover the expenses of the rockets, fuels, equipment etc. Eventually, from the funds of the stinking rich United States, NASA was one step closer to everyone's dream, landing on the moon, the Earth's natural satellite, and closest space object to us. But the dangers of such an enormous achievement, is the real hurdle they must overcome. Such an achievement puts a lot of equipment, millions of dollars and human lives on jeopardy. The astronauts, of course, retained the right to make their own choice, whether or not to put their lives on the line for the sake of science. Finally, NASA -after having partially failed to make it all the way to the moon and land - had a bash with APOLLO 11, and they did it. On July 21st, 1969, Neil Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface. His words marked the moment like ink on paper. "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". More moon landing missions took place afterwards, some of which NASA tried to do with flair, by developing more fancy -but rather necessary- technology, such as the moon buggy.

Us, humans, the humble creatures sitting on a corner of the infinite emptiness of space, have made their first step into a new era, the era of space exploration."
